2005 Chevy Tahoe LS wiring

Hello all,
Looking for a new Tahoe/Yukon.
I found one as described above. Evidently it doesn't have the Trailering Package. Before I drive 50 miles to see it, I was hoping someone on here had info on this vehicle.
It has a trailer hitch and looks like it has the 7-pin connection on the hitch.
My concern is wiring for a brake controller and the transmission cooler.
Did the LS model without the Trailering Package come pre-wired to accept a brake controller under the dash, and did it have a trans cooler?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

RE: Towing with minivan. Looking at SUV.

Wow. Thanks for all the replies.
My main issue was not that I didn't like our minivan. It's just SUV prices in the used market are so enticing. You can get a $45K vehicle that is 3 years old for over 60% less.
If I stick with the Quest, I would like to figure my options for reducing sag in the rear. I do not think I can use a WDH with the Jayco frame. If I'm wrong, then please let me know.
So, that leaves air bars or better shocks as the option. Any advice here?

Towing with minivan. Looking at SUV.

We are currently pulling a Jayco Eagle 12 with our '01 Quest. It does OK. But we are in "flat" Texas. And I've never towed with anything else to compare it to. My guess is the camper is ~2500 lbs. The van is just above 100K miles. The only trouble I've had is the cooling system which was replaced a couple months ago (radiator, thermostat, timing belt).
We are a family of 4 (including 2 pre-schoolers, so not a heavy family).
I'm really thinking about moving to a SUV. I'm thinking it will give me a little more power and towing ability, since I'm not sure the van is really meant for towing. Another reason is that now seems like a good time to snatch up a used SUV. The market seems overloaded as people are "downsizing" for mpg reasons.
For example, I've seen 2004-2005 Tahoes for sale in the $12-14K range. These are fully loaded with Towing package, DVD,... with around 50K miles.
Question is:
If anyone has towed with a minivan and a short-wheel base SUV like Tahoe or Expedition, what is the difference?
And is the change worth it?
Thanks for any replies.

RE: Any tow with a Nissan Quest?

Hi there.
I tow a 98 Jayco Eagle (>2500 lbs loaded) with a 01 Quest.
I have a class III hitch. But I need to add some beefier suspension because the van sags a couple of inches in the back.

RE: Quest tow wiring

Fast Mopar and Caddywhompus, thanks for the advice. I've been debating whether to just take it to a Trailer/Hitch place and have them install the wiring or to try to install myself. Obviously, if the dealer can get me something that will plug right in, then that will be easy.
I'll check with Nissan and see what is available.

Quest tow wiring

I'm trying to determine if my 01 Nissan Quest is ready to hook up a 4-pin adapter. Reviewing the van documents, it shows the 3500 towing capacity, but doesn't specifically say "Towing Package". So, I'm not sure if it was included or is standard.
My question is whether I will be able to use a T-One connector on this van or will have to completely wire it for a trailer. I cannot seem to locate any T-One's online for the van. I find all other models of Nissan, but not the Quest.
I removed a rear panel in the van and see an open connection. Not sure if this is where I could put a T-One or not. See pic -

I'm a towing newbie, so please forgive the basic questions. But any expertise or advise would be so much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

RE: Minivan towing pop-up

I opened the wiring compartment on the drive side rear inside. I see a 4 pin open connector hooking up to 4 wires - red, black, green, yellow. It looks like a place where you could plug in a 4 pin trailer connector harness.
See picture:

Would a 4-pin T-One connector or something hook in here?

RE: Minivan towing pop-up

OK, I was checking the owner's manual on my van last night and ran across the Dealers Window sticker. One of the things I saw was - 3500 Tow Rating or something similar.
This may be a dumb question, but would this mean that the van has a Tow Package?
I don't know if anyone owns a 2001 Quest, but if so, did these vans come standard with a Tow Package?
Also, where can I get a diagram or something for wiring for Trailer Brakes. If it has a Tow Package, I would assume it would be ready to receive a Brake Controller.
Thanks,
Jason

Jayco Eagle 1998

I'm looking at a 1998 Jayco Eagle 12 UD this weekend. I'm new to pop-up and looking to make my first purchase.
What is the quality of Eagles of this year? Any issues to look for?
Does NADA give a good place to start as far as negotiating?
Where can I get a floorplan or owner's manual for this trailer? Does the Jayco website offer this for older models?
Thanks,
Jason

RE: Minivan towing pop-up

Great. I figure I could install myself as long as it bolts right on.
Now, the tricky part is my van does not have a tow package - meaning I would have to wire it for brakes. The wiring part intimidates me more than bolting on a hitch. Would this be better left to the professionals? I hear a lot about the Prodigy brake controller. What does a brake controller actually do? Is there more to it than that?
Sorry for all the basic questions, but I have never owned a trailer or really towed anything.
1 more issue... I was thinking of waiting on the WD part. I might see how the pop-up tows without it before investing in a WD.
Thanks.

RE: Minivan towing pop-up

Good stuff here. Thanks for all the replies. Where is the best place to get a hitch installed? Should I consider ordering one and installing myself? Is there any online guide that someone has set up for this process?

RE: Minivan towing pop-up

So, what is the recommendation for a WD hitch? Does the class III hitch include the Weight Distributing? or is the WD component an extra part?

RE: Minivan towing pop-up

Thank you all for the much needed advice. I feel like the van will do fine with a medium sized pop-up. So, now I will see about installing a class III hitch, and getting it wired. Also, I will get a trans cooler as was suggested.
